Day 37 – Nov. 6

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” -Psalm 34:8

Any form of abuse is a terrible breach of trust and human dignity, that sadly breaks hearts and crushes one’s spirit. We live in a severely broken and fallen world, through which very sadly, abuse will continue. Perhaps even more disheartening than this reality, those who are abused may eventually lose sight of, or may have never known that our Lord is in their presence during such dark times. While, perhaps not in our nature, it is also important to realize that abusers, too, are brokenhearted and likely crushed in spirit. It is out of such conditions of the mind and heart, that evil and harm can come to others. So, whether abused or abusive, our Lord can comfort and heal, and our fervent prayers in this can be heard.

Dear gracious and loving Father, we come in full praise of your Holy name, and in complete need of Your forgiveness and love. Our hearts ache deeply for those who have experienced and/or are currently experiencing abuse. Our prayer is that You will comfort and heal them in Your close presence, and that You will use us as you choose in mending their hearts. Also, for the abusers, Lord – may your loving presence cause them to seek You, to forgive themselves, to heal through Your mighty power, and to sense our hand of care. Through the name of your Holy son, Jesus, please accept this prayer.
