Gratitude for our Freedoms

Scripture

“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.-Galatians 5:13

Observation

When we hear the words, freedom or liberty, our minds go to ideas like, I can do whatever I want.  I am free to do, be, or act how I want. Yet sometimes we forget there is responsibility or liability associated with our freedom. How we spend the time. What we do. As the text tells us, we are to use our freedom to serve one another in love. As we recognize we are free, we cannot forget we will also be connected to one another, God’s creation.

Prayer

Gracious God, we thank you for the freedoms we have, the liberties we enjoy freely. We ask that You would be with those in a position of power to ensure freedom and liberties for all citizens, not just those with voice.  While we sometimes focus on the individual, behind Your design for creation is an intent for us to live in community. As much as we belong to You, we belong to one another as well. Help us to remember we are free in Christ, but our freedom is to be used to glorify You. Amen.
