Those Facing Food Insecurity

Scripture

Many of us have been blessed with plenty of food to feed ourselves and our families. There are also many in our Searcy community who do not know where their next meal is coming from. It is easy for us who have plenty to distance ourselves from those who don’t have enough. But Jesus’s love for all of us demands that we have a deeper care for our needy neighbors than just as benefactors. Instead, what if we were to look at those who are hungry as our own brothers, sisters, sons, and daughters? Instead of treating feeding the poor as an optional activity, what if we made it our responsibility to our extended family in Christ? -Luke 14:12b-14

Prayer

Almighty and most merciful God, we remember before You all poor and neglected persons whom it would be easy for us to forget: the homeless and the destitute, the old and the sick, and all who have none to care for them. Help us to heal those who are broken in body or spirit, and to turn their sorrow into joy. Grant this, Father, for the love of Your Son Jesus Christ, who for our sake became poor. Amen.
