Peace In Our World

Scripture:

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.-John 16:33

Observation:

The context makes it clear that Jesus wants us to have joy in this world as we await His soon return. He makes a comparison to a mother in labor (John 16:21). It is painful as she goes into labor but she rejoices and even forgets her previous pain due to her baby. As we await our Saviors return, there will be much pain and suffering. We desperately want this world to get better but it’s not supposed to (Matthew 24; Revelation 16). Thankfully, this world is not our home (Philippians 3:20) and Jesus is preparing a better place for us (John 14:1-3). Therefore, we can rejoice as we hang on to the hope of Jesus’ soon return.

Prayer:

Thank you Jesus for living a sinless life in a sin filled world so that we may receive the priceless gift of salvation. You didn’t have to but You chose to. As we look all around our world, we see clear evidence of Your soon return. We desperately pray for peace in our world but understand that these things must take place. Soon and very soon we will see You face to face. Help us hang on to this hope. May we be of good cheer knowing that You have already overcame this world and are preparing something better for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
